ALDERSHOT - 24 MAY 23

Royal Engineers at RLC
Army Corps League 1 - Game 1

The Sappers travelled to Cirencester to take on the RLC in the opening round of the Army Corps Championship.

In an entertaining game, the two sides battled well. The home side pulled out a good lead during the first half - crossing the Try line three times before the Sappers replied following the half time break with two Try's of their own.

The RLC held enough of a gap though to see them clear with two more scores to finish the game and take the opening round win 44-20.

In their first Home game of the new season, the Sappers picked up a needed win over the REME putting on a fine display of rugby at Medway RFC.

After a close fought opening ten minutes, the hosts got the scoring underway with a converted Try followed by a Penalty.

The REME added a Penalty of their own soon after before the Sappers crossed once again, extending their lead.

Two more Try's either side of half time gave the home side a comfortable lead.

A further three scores put the Sappers in a commanding position, however the REME kept up the pressure and finished with two Try's of their own - both catch and drives from Lineouts on the five metre line. The first resulted in the forwards crossing for the score. The second attempt shortly after resulted in a Penalty Try to close out the game - the Sappers taking a well deserved victory, 48-15.
