The
Royal Engineers Rugby Club play our home fixtures at Chatham,
home of the Royal Engineers, sponsored by 'Hesco
Bastion' we are in conjunction with the Royal Artillery RFC the
oldest service rugby club founded in 1889.
The team have had a very disappointing start to the season. Following the defeat to the REME in last years Corps Final we have lost the first three Merit League games against the Infantry, REME & RLC. Recent victory against the R Signals has hopefully turned the direction for the game against the Gunners.
The management of the club continues to develop, see the contacts list for details; Captain Mike Thomas is now in the role of team manager and ex Army winger 'Frankie' Green has come into lead the back coaching section and Head coach Gareth Evans is additionally working with the Army A team. The club continues to support players in development, with many routinely succeeding in representing at full or junior Army level. A number of players play for civilian clubs at National and junior status. This coming season will be a challenge with several key players deployed to Afghanistan. Noxy Laqekoro was the Sappers Man of the Match against the R Signals- It was great to see Noxy back in a Sapper shirt; a player that never takes a backward step he scored the vital first try and on numerous occasions rampaged through the Signals defence; he thoroughly deserves his Man of the Match award. Well Done! Royal Engineer Captain Andy Sanger remains the Army Senior XV Coach (past RE RFC Head Coach) it clearly demonstrates the success of development at all levels throughout the club.Unit Rugby Officers who have players displaying potential to play at Corps level should contact the Director of Rugby, Head Coach or Senior Team Manager. |
